A Massive Wellness Wave

The 2023 American Express Annual Travel Report predicts a massive Wellness Wave in the coming years. AMEX’s research states that “… travelers want to relax and unplug from their busy lives – and are gravitating toward destinations and resorts that will help them decompress and feel healthier.”

82% of respondents enjoy walking as their favorite activity to stay healthy while traveling

72% of respondents say they are more focused on self-care than they were a year ago

57% of respondents plan to take extended vacations to focus on wellness

Wellness Travel – 21% Annual Growth Rate

The Global Wellness Institute recently shared that “… we predicted Wellness Travel would emerge as its own powerful category in tourism years before anyone even used the term. Now it’s the fastest growing travel sector. The Global Wellness Institute predicts an impressive 21% annual growth rate, expanding the sector to an over $1 trillion market by 2024.”

Expanding Beyond the Traditional Spa Experience

As we continue out of the pandemic, a recent article in SKIFT points to the opportunities to expand wellness travel beyond the traditional spa experience. Their editorial piece explains, “… it’s now clear this trend of travel becoming in and of itself an opportunity to heal and a splurge on wellness is here to stay going into 2022”, and beyond.
